Dear Church Family,
This week marks a changing of the seasons. As the calendar turned from February to March, we entered meteorological spring in Houston. To mark the occasion we not only have Spring Break beginning this weekend for many, but this evening brings the much anticipated (dreaded?) “Spring Forward” time change. Rodeo season also kicked off this week and crowds have gathered in our city from all over the world to enjoy the festivities. This past Wednesday was Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of the 40 day season of Lent.
This week also marks a changing of seasons in the life of our church. Last Sunday we held the last worship services and Sunday School classes on our West Campus for a time, and tomorrow we will bring the whole church together at our Downtown Campus, marking the beginning of a new chapter in our church’s history. This move will allow us to reunify, regroup, and renew our common life together. We will pause during the season of Lent to enjoy being together in the presence of our Lord on one campus before beginning the planning for a future season of new worship experiences yet to come after Easter.
Tomorrow our Traditional services, The Source, and Altar Umoja will worship together in the sanctuary Downtown at 11:00 a.m., and the service will feature music and leadership from each service. After worship, we will be holding a time for coffee and fellowship in the lobby near the Connection Point Room (outside The Park). While this gathering is a place of fellowship and connection for members of The Source coming Downtown from West Campus, everyone is welcome to come and connect across all of our services.
This Sunday also marks the beginning of a new Sunday School model, bringing classes from West Campus and Downtown together. Children ages birth to 4th grade will be meeting in The Park on the 1st Floor. Students ages 5th to 12th grade will be meeting in the Cafe and Lounge on the 6th floor. Adults will begin gathering on the 4th floor for coffee and fellowship at 9:30 a.m., will transition to an assembly for singing and announcements at 9:50 a.m. and will move to individual classes by 10:00 a.m. Please note that every class has moved to a new space. Please see the screens in the church lobby in the morning to locate your new classroom.
As we begin a new season together, there are so many things going on! We are kicking off a new Lenten Study on Tuesdays at Noon in the Fellowship Hall. We are collecting items for STAAR Bags. We are registering children, youth, and adult volunteers for summer camp and our students for an All Youth Mission Trip this summer. Please read below for all the details.
Our scripture above reminds us that for everything there is a season and there is a time for everything under heaven. I am so excited about the future of our church. I can’t wait to begin this new season together tomorrow morning.
