What Is Holy Week?
Holy Week is the week leading up to Easter, when we are reminded of God’s sacrifice of His son Jesus and His love for all people. Throughout the week, we will have several worship services, starting on Palm Sunday (where we celebrate his triumphant entrance to Jerusalem), and then on Maundy Thursday (where we commemorate the Last Supper), Good Friday (where we honor Christ’s death), and Easter Sunday (where we celebrate his resurrection).
Join First Methodist Houston throughout this Holy Week, either online or in person at our Downtown campus. We look forward to celebrating with you and your family this Easter season!

Holy Week Schedule
Palm Sunday, April 13, 2025

Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week. We celebrate Jesus’ triumphant entrance into Jerusalem, while remembering that it was a journey Jesus knew would end in his sacrificial death on the cross.
11:00 A.M. Downtown Worship Service
You have the opportunity to join in the celebration! During the Traditional service, we will be holding a palm processional, with a Children’s Moment following directly afterwards.
Everyone – and we mean everyone! – is invited to join the processional! Meet in the chapel outside the sanctuary at 10:45 a.m., grab a palm frond, and enter the sanctuary with joy to welcome our arriving savior.
Maundy Thursday, April 17, 2025

Maundy Thursday is a day for remembering the events of Jesus’ last supper. The word “Maundy” comes from the Latin mandatum, which means “command.” It references some of the last instructions Jesus gave his disciples, at that meal, his last command before his death: that we love one another, just as Jesus has loved us.
On Maundy Thursday, we remember Jesus’ Last Supper with his disciples – his acceptance of his painful fate, and the way he walked knowingly into the tribulations and betrayal that awaited him.
Noon Traditional Worship Service
At noon in the downtown sanctuary we will hold a service of story and communion which culminates with the stripping of the altar, allowing worshipers a chance to contemplate the events of that fateful night, and prepare their hearts for Easter. The service is designed to be short enough that downtown visitors can make the service part of their lunch hour.
Good Friday, April 18, 2025

Good Friday is a solemn day when we look back at the crucifixion of death of Jesus Christ at Calvary – how Jesus went willingly to the cross, and how he suffered and died as the ultimate sacrifice for our sins.
Noon Traditional Good Friday Service Downtown
A sacred service featuring our choir, soloists, and all of our pastors. Together, we journey through songs and readings memorializing the journey Jesus made, from sacrifice to death.
Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025

Easter Sunday is the day we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who returned from the grave after three days to bring us salvation. By his blood we are saved, and we can now take confidence because we have the same power working in us that raised Jesus from the dead!
All of our services on Easter Sunday are a joyous celebration of the mighty power of God to break us free from the chains of sin and offer us everlasting life.
9:45 A.M. Easter Breakfast and Celebration
In the past, we called this “Family Easter Breakfast”, but not everyone showed up, so we’ve changed the title so that people know that this is an event for every single member of this church family. Young and old alike, you are invited to join us on Easter morning in the Fellowship Hall!
We’ll have breakfast for all, games, and fun activities, plus a time of fellowship and celebration before the Easter service.
Click here to register to let us know you’re coming so that we have breakfast for everyone!
