Scripture:
And he sat down and called the twelve. And he said to them, “If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.”

Jesus’ teaching is completely counter to our cultural training. We laud the virtue of self-interest, while the Kingdom of God values service and sacrifice. In order to follow Christ, we must align our will to His and humble ourselves. It is not natural. In fact, it is impossible to do in our own strength, we must have God’s help. The good news is that when we step into obedience, we find God and we are changed.
Prayer:
Jesus, give us Your eyes and Your heart for the people around us. Show us how You want us to care for them and help us to be obedient. Allow us to focus on You and others until we lose focus of our own needs. We trust You to provide for us.
