Scripture:
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
– Colossians 3:12
There is work that God does and work that we do. Much like a child learns to dress themselves, we can learn to put on these attributes each day, until they are part of our nature. Putting on the attributes is our work and in our control. The Holy Spirit’s work is to change our hearts and make the attributes part of our nature. We have control over whether we put them on – God controls the result.
Action:
Take a moment and imagine yourself putting on each attribute, as you would dress for the day. Put on: Compassion. Kindness. Humility. Gentleness. Patience.
Prayer:
Father, thank you for choosing me and loving me. Thank you for the gift of Your Holy Spirit, that I may access Your character. Today, I put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Help me see others as You see them, and become more like You, as I exercise these attributes each day.
