Day 342

Scripture:

“And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ to the glory and praise of God.”

– Philippians 1:9-11

As we approach the last month of our Year of Prayer and Discernment, I give thanks for the opportunity to start each morning with a time of prayer and reflection provided by the daily emails. I have been able to reflect on what discernment means to me. Knowledge is important to discernment; however, discernment doesn’t merely come out of knowledge of facts. Paul and Timothy speak of love abounding in knowledge and discernment. As I seek to discern God’s will, I start by praying to be more loving. As I seek greater insight, I start by praying to be more loving. As I seek guidance on difficult questions, I start by praying to be more loving. I give thanks for this time for reflection that as I seek discernment, I start with love. – John Esquivel
