Scripture:
You, God, are my God,
earnestly I seek you;
I thirst for you,
my whole being longs for you,
in a dry and parched land
where there is no water. Psalm 63:1 (NIV)
Have you ever longed for God like the writer of this Psalm? Do you long for Him this way now? Take a moment to be quiet before God and think about this verse. Be still. Ask God to speak to your mind and heart. Then read the verse several times and sit with it. Is there a word or phrase that catches your attention? If not, don’t be discouraged. God speaks in His timing. He knows you, and he knows how to communicate with you. Let Him know you want to meet with Him. God longs for a relationship with you, and He wants to fill you like a drink of water fills a parched throat. Ask God to give you a thirst for His spirit today, that you will desire Him before anyone or anything else.
Prayer: Read the verse again as your personal prayer. Ask God to help you desire Him in this way. Then substitute we for I and pray it a second time for His church, First Methodist Houston.
