Day 288

Scripture:

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

– Philippians 4:8-9

What do you think about the most? What things do you dwell on without intention? Left to our own devices it is easy to drift into worry. The apostle Paul teaches us a healthier way of thinking. His expectation is quite demanding. It is an act of will to control our thoughts but may truly be the greatest kingdom work we do. Our thoughts manifest action. If we focus our attention on the lovely and pure, our lives begin to reflect the presence of God to others. The alternative is almost always a spiral of anxiety that steals life from us.

Prayer: Father, our minds are pulled in different directions and we easily veer off to lesser thoughts. Fill our minds with Your beauty.

Petition: For Law Enforcement officers who put their lives on the line for our safety. For their protection and wisdom as they serve and for their hearts to be motivated by love for God and others.
