Day 272

Scripture:

But whoever has worldly goods and sees his brother or sister in need, and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God remain in him?

– 1 John 3:17 (NASB)

One of the defining characteristics of the Christian is the expression of compassion and mercy by the sharing of earthly resources with those in need. Luke paints a vivid picture of a deep spirit of compassion in the life of the early church penning that “all the believers were together and had all things in common; and they would sell their property and possessions and share them with all, to the extent that anyone had need.” (Acts 2:44-45). Is there someone around you in need today that God is leading you to serve? Let Christ’s love and compassion be expressed through you.

Prayer: Lord, there are so many in need around me. Open my eyes, to those You desire for me to serve today, in Your name. Please give me a kind and tender heart to gladly share the blessings You have given me.

Petition: For our church to have a heart for those in need around us. For us to be led to those with needs that God desires us to meet. For humility in service so we don’t think of ourselves as better or more blessed than those with material needs.
