Scripture:
Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
– Philippians 2:3-4 (ESV)
The human ego is powerful and looks out for “self” and “I.” It takes determination to live like Christ instead of falling into the trap of preserving our ego. We can do this through prayer, reading our Bible, and having trusted friends who will tell us when we are falling prey to self-preservation instead of counting others as more significant than ourselves.
Prayer:
Jesus, we do not want to look out for our own interests. We do not want to be conceited or act from a place of selfish ambition. We want to order our lives in a way that makes priority for prayer, for being honest with each other and, for study of Your word. We know this will lead to our growth as humble disciples. Place on my heart the interests of others before my own. I’m listening for Your words and wisdom.
