Scripture:
So, they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told to them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.
– Luke 2:16-19 (NIV)
No doubt Mary was thrilled by the words she heard from the shepherds about her newborn baby and she pondered them in her heart. If we look more closely at other Bible translations, the words kept, remembered, and preserved are used to describe the feelings she had at this good news. The Greek word for treasured also means “kept safe.” What are you “treasuring” in your heart? Pay close attention to Mary because her focus was on Jesus. Treasuring Him will bring us joy beyond what we can comprehend.
Prayer:
Father, this Christmas season and in the new year ahead, help us, like Mary, to treasure Jesus, the King of Kings and Savior of the world.
