Scripture:
In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said,” Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”
– Luke 1:26-28
As you re-read the Christmas story this year, give special attention to the numerous appearances of heavenly messengers who brought both good news and warnings to the people on earth. In today’s Scripture, Gabriel brought Mary good news. He let her know she was highly favored, and that God was with her. Her role would be consequential, and her son would change the world.
Like Mary, each of us is highly favored by God. Like Mary, He has a plan for us and promised to be present as we live it out. This Christmas season, take some time to think about God’s plan for your life. Mary humbly accepted what God had for her. She answered the angel saying, “I am the Lord’s servant. May your word be fulfilled.” May we also accept and respond likewise.
Prayer:
God, may I continue to be in awe as I read the Christmas story. Help me remember that I, too, am favored by You. Help me accept the plan You have for my life. Like Mary, may I have a servant’s heart as I live out Your great plan for me.
