Steven Newcomb

Congregational Care and Adult Discipleship Pastor

Rev. Steven Newcomb

Pastor Steven is coming to us from First United Methodist Church in Wharton where he has been serving since 2020 as the Senior Pastor.

In his role at our church he will be in charge of home and hospital visitation, equipping and deploying the Congregational Care Team, working closely with the Stephen Ministry, supporting and resourcing our Sunday School classes, developing and growing small groups, and planning short-term Bible Studies throughout the year.

Pastor Steven is an ordained Elder in the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. He holds a Master of Divinity degree from the Perkins School of Theology and a Bachelor of Social Sciences degree from Southern Methodist University. He also studied at Lon Morris College, where he served as Chaplain, Director of the Church Careers Program, and Dean of Students.

He comes with a proven record of growing adult discipleship efforts through Sunday School, small groups, and seasonal Bible Studies as well as holding community discipleship events for people of all ages. One of the greatest gifts Steven will bring to his ministry here is the gift of caring and listening. He is great with people and offering one-to-one care. He is also gifted at helping congregations engage more fully with their communities, which will be a real asset to us in reaching the people who work around our campuses during the week.

Pastor Steven is married to Becca, an ordained Deacon who is currently appointed at First United Methodist Church of Katy. They have a two-year old son named Samuel. They love to travel and especially enjoy cruises. They are looking forward to visiting Disney as a family soon.

Pastor Steven wanted to share the following message with us:

“I cannot possibly communicate how excited I am to be joining the community at First UMC of Houston. Your vibrant church family has been a beacon of faith for the people of this area for a very long time, and I look forward to being part of the future with you as we spread the love and grace of Jesus Christ.

To have the opportunity to join you specifically in support of adult discipleship and congregational care is something that warms my heart, and I cannot wait to get to know you better.”
